Jimmy Dale "JD" Hemming - RIP

MAY 6, 1949 - February 15, 2023

Jimmy Dale “JD” Hemming, age 73 of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully February 15, 2023. JD was born in Port Clinton, Ohio to the late James Frederick Hemming and Betty Jane (Strickland) Wood.

JD was a proud United States Army veteran and served his country as a Combat Engineer and CID Special Agent, retiring CW03 after 21 years of dedicated service. He was a proud member and supporter of the VFW, American Legion, AMVETS, Moose Lodge, DAV, The Forty and Eight, and NAUS.

He enjoyed hosting Buckeye games in his Sports Lounge with family and friends, scratching lottery tickets, writing, helping others, and getting in a good prank. Known for his sense of humor, the motto of the restaurant he once ran with his mother proudly proclaimed, “We rip off every third customer and pass the savings on to you!” JD will be remembered for his humor, loyalty, kindness, and generosity. He was loved beyond words and will continue shining his light and laughter on the rest of us.

JD is survived by his children Scott Hemming and Valerie Bachman, sisters Pam Chilson and Vickie Stevens, four grandchildren, and many friends. As Willie Nelson said, “Turn out the lights, the party’s over.” Go rest high on that mountain JD and enjoy the peace.

A visitation will be held on Friday February 24th from 4:00-7:00pm at Schoedinger Grove City followed by a funeral service. Interment will be at Sunset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in JD’s name to the VFW, American Legion, AMVETS, Moose Lodge, DAV, or NAUS.
