Ray Alton Freeman

October 12, 1939 - July 10, 2022

CW3 (Retired) Ray Alton Freeman, formerly of Moore-Haven Florida passed away on July 10th, 2022, at the age of 82. Born to Ernest and Trudell Freeman of Cullman, Alabama he remained deeply invested in his hometown and the people he cherished so much. After graduating from Fairview Highschool, he began the first of two career paths.

A self-made man, he devoted over twenty years of service to his country. His time in the military during his formative years offered clarity and direction in life. A decorated service member in the United States Army, he served with distinction across the globe and in Vietnam, as he made his way through the ranks retiring, with a Master of Science degree. His advanced degree provided a second career path as a ballistics specialist with the Miami, Dade Crime lab for another twenty years. His retirement years were equally fulfilling in the way he lived, and the peoples lives he touched along the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Trudell Freeman, his brothers Johnny Freeman, Gerald Freeman, sisters, Edna, Bavar, Doris Wright, and Ethel Tuggle, and their beloved spouses Benny Tuggle, Jutta Freeman and Gail Freeman.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Ernestine Freeman, his son Raymond Freeman, daughter Bettina Jernander, Son-in-Law Joe Jernander, grand-children Nicole Jernander, Chris Jernander, and great-grandchild Christina Jernander. Ray is one of 11 children, he has remained connected to them and their families throughout the years, sharing in their joy and sorrow. His life has been lived to the fullest, never letting a moment go to waste. His legacy will live on in all those he touched along the way as he makes his final journey home.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Antioch Baptist Church, Cullman Alabama, visitation at 1pm, services at 2pm. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Tim Kinney will officiate.
