Edwin Stanley Johnson, Jr.

August 26, 1954 - August 27, 2021

Edwin Johnson Jr., of Albuquerque, NM, died with family by his side on August 27th, 2021 as a result of complications from a hip fracture. He was 67.

Ed was born on August 26th, 1954 in Waltham, MA and grew up in Salem, NH. He was an introspective child who was never afraid to explore and question the status quo. In 1978 he joined the United States Army and spent his military career as a CID Agent. He was a skilled detective who was known for being calm and thoughtful even in the most chaotic situations.

After retiring from the Army, Ed decided to delve deeper into his life-long interest in religion and spirituality by attending Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA where he earned a master’s degree in Divinity.

He relocated to Albuquerque, NM in 2014. A consummate student, he spent his time attending college courses that matched whatever interested him: IT security, Zen Buddhism, and watercolor painting (to name a few). He enjoyed making art, baked a great loaf of bread, owned an extensive book collection, and loved comedy shows from the BBC.

Ed was proceeded in death by his parents, Edwin Sr. and Elaine Johnson, sister Donna “Aisha” Khaliq, and brother-in-law Lee Parsons. He is survived by his children, Kisha (Joe) Crofts and Jason Johnson; grandchild Morgan “Alex” Crofts; siblings Carol (Dave) Straw, Susan (Dan) Carr, Debbie Parsons, Cliff (Verna) Johnson, and Dave Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; dear friend Tim (Yanick) Bush; former spouses Michelle Lewis and Annette Wegscheider; and his beloved dogs, Puck and Boady.

A virtual event to share memories was held on October 2nd, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sierra Club or to your local public radio station.
