Richard Wayne "Dick" Payton

June 29, 1929 - March 16, 2018

Richard W. "Dick" Payton, 88, of Wichita Falls, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, March 16, 2018. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 19, 2018 at 11:00 am, at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home, with Dr. Bob McCartney, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. A private family interment service will be held at the Fort Sill National Cemetery at a later date.

Proud of his bluegrass roots and an official Kentucky Colonel, Dick was born June 29, 1929 in Louisville, KY. While attending Georgetown College, where he later graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business, he met his lifelong sweetheart, Jeanette Delap, and they were married May 30, 1953 in Louisville KY. She predeceased him on December 13, 2014. Other family that predeceased him include his parents, Leslie Wayne and Lalah Payton; a sister, Hazel Fryrear; her husband Alvin; and a nephew Jeff Fryrear.

As a youth, Dick achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. After college, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Way as a CID Agent with the Military Police. He was employed in manufacturing management and sales in Lancaster, PA, Salem, IL, and Dallas, TX. He owned his own businesses in Dallas, and with his family in Wichita Falls. He was a Deacon at five different Baptist churches, and was still serving in that capacity at First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls at the time of his death. Dick also enjoyed community service and various speaking engagements as a Toastmaster.

Dick loved his family and was so proud of his daughter Angela Craig and husband Michael; son Bob Payton and wife Lori; and his only grandchild, Cole Payton, all of Wichita Falls. His extended family includes Jennifer and David Cooper of Indianapolis, IN, Brian, Cindy, Danielle, Derrick, Tori, Graham and Hudson Holmes of Centralia, IL, and Josh, Stephanie, and Rilynn Martoccio of Louisville, KY, one nephew Steve and Shari Fryrear of Hopkinsville, KY.

Interment was at the Ft. Sill National Cemetery.
