John William Lanting
Retired Chief Warrant Officer John William Lanting, Sr, 73, husband of Penny Harrison Lanting, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at his residence.
Mr Lanting was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War and the recipient of numerous military awards including the Purple Heart. While in service, he was in the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) and the Protective Service Department (PSD) which included protecting American Statesman Caspar Weinberger, Secretary of Defense. Following his military career, he was Head of Security for E-Systems. After that, he became a Private Investigator, and then his career was moved to being an Agent for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. With his strong faith, Mr. Lanting served as a Hospice Care Chaplain and was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church and was a retired Ruling Elder.
Few called him Dad, several called him Papa and many called him Chief. Left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife of 54 years, Penny Lanting; four sons, John W. Lanting, Jr (Julie); Gary Lanting (Marian); Jeff Lanting and Jerry Lanting (Kayla); his daughter, Michelle Lanting; Step-father, Neel Dearing; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great due to arrive in September. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Lanting, Alice G. Dearing and a brother, Bruce Lanting.
Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 1, 2021, in Harlem Memorial Cemetery with the Pastor Gordon Crompton and Reverend Scott Reiber officiating with Military Honors accorded.
