Jackie Dean Harris, 76, of Shelburn, Indiana passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Cobblestone Nursing Home.
He was born on January 26, 1942 in Richmond, Indiana the son of Lee and Anna (Pennington) Harris. Jack graduated from Valley High School in West Terre Haute the class of 1960. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer after 20 years with the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command serving in roles of Senior Agent, Narcotic Agent, General Crimes Investigator, Fraud Investigator, Investigations team chief, Polygraph Examiner, Instructor and Polygraph Supervisor. He was the director of the Argenbright International Polygraph Institute in Atlanta, Georgia where he served as Chief Instructor for all of the Polygraph courses. Jack also provided polygraph/investigative service for local business, attorneys and law enforcement agencies.
Jack graduated from Camron University in Oklahoma with a bachelorís degree in Criminal Justice and Jacksonville State University with a master degree in Public Administration. At age 51 Jack completed his training in the 101st Airborne Division Air Assault. He was also employed at Wabash Valley Correctional in the internal affairs department, campus security at ISU and drove a semi-truck He was a member of the Sullivan VFW Post 2459, Shelburn Legion Post 197 and Sullivan Elks 911. Jack was a former commander and former financial officer for the Shelburn Legion Post 197. He enjoyed spending time with his great-grandchildren, his dog, Petey, and with his friends at the clubs where he was a member.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Nikki Downs Harris, daughter, Melissa Harris, brother, James Harris and two sisters; Barbara Jackson and Ann Elliott.
Survivors include daughter, Jayne-Anne (Bill) Dixon of Adams, Tennessee, four grandchildren; Courtney Harris (Ryan Voigtman), Brittney Orman, Kara Dixon and Colter Dixon, two great-grandchildren; Marshall and Olivia Voigtman, loving companion of 22 years, Sharon Higginbotham and her sons; Curt (Lori) Higginbotham and Michael (Ivy) Higginbotham and her grandchildren; Katie, Jake, Lilly and Gunner.
Celebration of life was at Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan, Indiana with interment in Longs Chapel Cemetery in Sullivan County, Indiana with a Military graveside service by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera Legion Posts and Sullivan county VFW Post.
