LTC Paul Westin, 76, died February 18, 2007 at Doctors Hospital, Augusta, GA. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mickie. Among the survivors are two sons, Robert Westin, Gray, GA; and, David Westin of Augusta, GA. A memorial service will be at 2 PM Wednesday, 21 February, at St Andrew Presbyterian Church, 3551 Wheeler Road, with the Rev Robert Hunt officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the home, 411 Shallowford Circle, Augusta. The inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will be private. LTC Westin was born March 28, 1930, in the small Wisconsin town of Florence. He lived there until he attended the University of Wisconsinin Madison, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture. He later earned a masters degree in criminology at Michigan State University. After participating in the ROTC program at the University of Wisconsin, he entered the Army as a Lieutenant. He retired 25 years later as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served his country in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War; worked in the Military Police and the Army Corps of Engineers; and was a director of the Department of Army-wide Training Support. He had tours of duty at Fort Benning; Fort Bragg; Paris, France; White Sands; Fort McPherson; Fort Gordon (twice); and Fort McClellan. LTC Westin retired from the Army in 1977. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Andrew Presbyterian Church or Doctors Hospital, 3651 Wheeler Road, (attention Bart Grey) for a new fleet of wheelchairs, as per LTC Westin's wishes.
