I was very saddened on hearing of the passing of LTC Robert Campbell. He was an outstanding individual and well respected. “Bob“ Campbell was one of the first of the USACIL Lab Commanders appointed from the Chemical Corps instead of the MP Corps . He used this new professional challenge to the field of forensics as a springboard, of sorts, into his later accomplishments (outlined by Bobby Poole) in areas of forensic science.

LTC Campbell took over the USACIL-CONUS laboratory with the command advising him that the facility would be relocating from Fort Gordon. As a consequence, he did not bring his family to Fort Gordon and just “batched” it as the laboratory never did move during his tenure. He spent a lot of his weekends doing odd ‘jobs’ at the Laboratory, which included mowing the lawn and policing the area. He was one that “did what had to be done”!!!
